QuEST enjoys a fun-filled evening

The 45th Joint Propulsion Conference & Exhibit was held in Denver, Colorado between 2nd – 5th August, 2009. The objective for JPC 2009 was to identify and highlight how innovative aerospace propulsion technologies get inserted into both new and evolving systems. Panel sessions & discussions were held that focused on advanced system applications that can be used to showcase the propulsion systems, components, and technologies that enable them.

The QuEST Global team was represented by Dr. Mani Subramanian and Dr. Jason Smith. They were actively involved in organizing a total of 14 technical sessions for Gas Turbine Engine Technology.

As a member of the organizing committee for this conference, and as a member of the Air Breathing Propulsion committee, Dr. Subramanian was the focal point for sessions relating to Gas Turbine Engines. Overall responsibility included reviewing technical papers from many parts of the world relating to technology advancements in compressor aerodynamics, combustors, turbines, numerical methods and heat transfer disciplines.

Over a period of nine months, Dr. Mani Subramanian and Dr. Jason Smith jointly organized a total of 14 technical sessions covering afore mentioned technology disciplines and invited technically renowned individuals from industry, academia and Government agencies to assist them with chairing of the Gas Turbine sessions.

In addition to participation from GE Aviation, Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce, Honeywell Inc., US DoD, NASA Glenn and NASA Ames Research Centers, Dr. Subramanian and Smith personally chaired few of these sessions. All the technical sessions and the conference exhibit had dignitaries, luminaries and senior managements from major aerospace companies, IIT's, academia, government agencies representing countries/regions such as US, Japan, Europe, China and India, to name a few. There were close to 2000 attendees over a span of 3 days.

Dr. Subramanian belongs to American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) since 1975 and is presently an Associate Fellow of the society. As an active member of the AIAA and ASME technical committees, he has organized and chaired several technical sessions in the AIAA Aerospace, Joint Propulsion and ASME Gas Turbine conferences.
